Byline: BOB NIEDT
Giorgio Damiani figures his hot Montreal restaurant concepts could go together with Carousel Center's expansion like pasta goes with sushi.
Both - the restaurant concepts and the mall concepts - are offbeat and a bit eccentric.
"We want to expand to the States, but we want to choose the right project to enter the States," Damiani said recently on a visit to Central New York to gauge Carousel Center's planned $900 million expansion. "The thing that (Pyramid Cos. founder) Bob Congel is doing, I think, is great. He has a great vision."
Pyramid, based in Syracuse, owns Carousel Center. With the expansion, Pyramid wants to turn Carousel Center into a world-renowned shopping and entertainment complex drawing visitors from around the globe.
To make the center into an international tourist attraction, it will need more than a domestic flavor. It will need a touch of Europe, a touch of Canada and a whole lot more.
Pyramid is courting the international market. A development Pyramid is considering bringing into the mall is called World of Fashion. As proposed, it is 100,000 square feet of high-fashion retailing mixed in with services and fine dining. That section, as proposed, would be flanked by two of the top upscale department stores in the nation.
