Clinton Square is getting most of the attention these days. But another, larger and more expensive park project is nearing completion not far away.
It's called the Syracuse Inner Harbor, a former state Barge Canal terminal that sat decaying and mostly unused for decades before a major renovation began last year.
It's actually not a renovation, though. It's a transformation.
The terminal is finding new life as a marina and, planners hope, a tourism center that will help draw people to the city's revitalized waterfront.
Nearly $20 million in local, state and federal dollars are being spent to install public amenities at the harbor, located less than a mile south of Onondaga Lake and the Carousel Center shopping mall.
Planners hope private developers will invest many more millions of dollars building restaurants, specialty retail shops, and luxury apartments and condominiums around the harbor.
