For the last two years, Jimmy Butterfield and Sheldon Patrick almost always lined up against each other during football practice at Hannibal High School.
Last season was Patrick's senior year, and the last time the opposing linemen would ever challenge each other.
Sheldon C. Patrick and James G. Butterfield died in separate car crashes, exactly two weeks apart.
Now Butterfield, like Patrick, will be buried in a purple-and-white Warriors football jersey.
On July 6, two weeks after his graduation, Patrick, 19, was killed when the 1990 Plymouth he was driving went off McIntyre Road in Sterling and hit a tree. Sheriff's deputies said excessive speed caused the crash.
On Friday, a two-vehicle crash killed Butterfield, 18, of 148 Oswego St., Hannibal.
