Wachovia to Close Retail Mortgage-Servicing Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Oct. 19--As part of its integration effort, the new Wachovia Corp. plans to close its retail-mortgage-servicing center in Winston-Salem, displacing 90 employees.

The unit's operations, which are in the downtown Park building on Cherry Street, will be moved to a similar servicing center in Raleigh, Jay Reed, a spokesman for Wachovia, said yesterday.

The change will be implemented in the first half of next year.

Wachovia, which has merged with First Union Corp., has eight retail-mortgage-servicing centers across its Southeast market area.
