Jobless Figures Hold Steady in Winston-Salem, N.C., Metropolitan Area.

Oct. 26--The unemployment rate for the metropolitan Triad was unchanged at 4.8 percent in September, while the rate for Forsyth County increased to 4 percent from 3.8 percent the previous month, according to statistics released yesterday by the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina.

The Triad, which has the fourth-highest unemployment rate among the state's 11 metropolitan statistical areas, was the only metro area that did not see its unemployment rate drop last month.

Although the weak economy continued to erode jobs last month, mainly in manufacturing, economists say that layoffs announced as a result of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks will only …
