SAN ANTONIO - A preliminary study examining the usefulness of dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry screening found no incidence of osteoporosis in any woman with a body mass index greater than 33.

Scans were performed on 224 randomly selected postmenopausal women who had no history of antiresorptive-medication use. Their results were then analyzed for potential links to height, weight, age, race, and known risk factors for osteoporosis, Capt. Robert V Coleman, MC USAF, reported at the annual meeting of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.
