Jan. 7--Dutch shareholders of Royal Ahold NV, the world's third-largest retailer, have succeeded in forcing a new inquiry into management practices that led to accounting fraud at the food conglomerate's Columbia subsidiary, the company disclosed yesterday.

A Dutch court ordered the review, the latest in a string of inquiries for the Zaandam, Netherlands-based retailer, in response to a Feb. 2004 request from the VEB, a small shareholder advocacy group that represents Dutch investors.
