Jan. 6--Mortimer B. Zuckerman, the chairman and publisher of the New York Daily News, and Martin Dunn, editorial director and deputy publisher, announced today the appointment of Michael Cooke as the paper's editor in chief.

Cooke will join the Daily News in February from the Chicago Sun-Times, where he has been editor in chief for the past five years. He joins the paper at one of the most exciting times in its history.
