SEATTLE _ And now for your New Year's Day pop quiz, what conclusions can be drawn from Cal's performance at Washington on Friday?
The choices are:
a) Washington isn't the so-called Pac-10 giant some make it out to be.
b) Cal isn't the so-called Pac-10 dregs some make it out to be.
The answer is all of the above. The Bears acquitted themselves nicely in their Pac-10 opener, erasing a 16-point deficit to take a second-half lead only to watch the No. 13 Huskies pull away down the stretch for an 81-67 victory in front of a sellout crowd of 10,000 at Bank of America Arena.
Washington (11-1) has all of its important pieces back from last year's NCAA Tournament team and is pegged by many as the conference favorite. But the Bears (7-4) held their own in hostile territory, giving them increased hope for the Pac-10 season.
