MEMPHIS, Tenn. _ This should've been called the Surreal Bowl.
Here Louisville was on the verge of _ arguably _ the biggest football game in school history.
A bowl matchup with both teams ranked in the nation's top 10.
From the moment the pairing was announced, the AutoZone Liberty Bowl showdown with Boise State offered such delicious possibility _ the nation's two top-ranked offenses _ that it had literally captured the nation's fancy.
Win the game, and it could vault U of L to such a lofty final national ranking, it could even set the table for the once football-challenged Cardinals to contend for the 2005 national title.
So, with all that at stake, U of L fans did exactly what you expect a fan base to do on the verge of an epic football showdown.
