Dec. 29--It was no easy task, but health plans say they're ready for a state law that takes effect Saturday prohibiting the use of Social Security numbers as member identifiers.

Health Net of Arizona had to convert 92 million lines of data on its 180,000 Arizona members, said spokeswoman Susan McLeod.

Those data lines represented every doctor visit, every hospital stay, every service obtained by each member, she said. The job required additional staffers and took from December 2003 through May to complete.
