Dec. 21--ESCONDIDO, Calif. -- The money from the city's newly installed red-light cameras is just starting to roll in.

Escondido is the latest city in North County to install cameras to click pictures of red-light scofflaws, following Vista, Oceanside, Encinitas, Del Mar, Poway and Solana Beach. The city of Escondido could make a tidy sum -- more than a third of a million dollars -- on the tickets next year, but police anticipate that the volume will drop as drivers learn to slow down instead of charging through a red light.
