wash your hands: It sounds cliche, but hand washing could prevent half of all cases.
beta-glucan: Extracted from the cell walls of yeast, these long-chain carbohydrates--polysaccharides--energize your immunity. The normal 25-milligram (mg)dosage is low for the flu and cold season, but don't exceed 200 mg a day.
antioxidants: Possibly affording protection themselves, antioxidants may enhance antiviral qualities of beta-glucan. Try vitamins A, C and E, selenium, quercetin, grape seed extract, pine bark extract, coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid.
beta-carotene: This precursor to vitamin A stimulates time immune system, kills viruses and protects mucus membranes. If you are at risk for the flu, you can up the normal dosage of 10,000 international units (IU) to 50,000 IU.
