Virginia-based Rowe Furniture blames new software for drop in earnings, sales.

Dec. 11--Rowe Furniture executives warned in September that there "might be bumps in the road" ahead because of plans to bring on line a new software system to help manage production scheduling, inventory, payroll and other key functions.

They were right.

Rowe Furniture, a manufacturer of upholstered furniture, is a subsidiary of The Rowe Companies. Rowe Furniture has about 868 employees at its Elliston plant and an additional 149 workers at a frame shop in Salem, according to Gene Morphis, chief financial officer for The Rowe Companies.
