Sportingbet's October acquisition of the world's third-largest online poker operator, ParadisePoker.com, dispelled any doubts about the recent growth of internet gaming. The $297m deal, gave the online sports betting and casino operator a 10% stake of the worldwide online poker market, and helped boost the share price as the City welcomed the move.
