Behold the cheetah-print iPod.
And the smiley-face iPod, the skull-head iPod and the American-flag iPod. If teenage taste observers are to be believed, accessorizing the little music players with printed plastic "skins" as they're called, is hot-hot-hot this holiday season. So are Apple's iPod minis.
"They're very much like cell phones from a few years ago," said Brandon Holley, editor-and-chief of ELLEgirl magazine, which conducts online write-in surveys of teenagers.
There are iPod facade prints, iPod holders, even iPod "sweatshirts," to clothe the little guys. What's next? iPod mini-skirts? Just wait.
"Everyone's dressing up their iPods," Holley said. "The decorative cases are so ubiquitous now."
According to the magazine's most recent survey, of 800 teenage girls, the designers they most admired were Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs and Betsey Johnson. As for favorite cosmetic brands, the girls chose CoverGirl, Maybelline and M.A.C. Most popular fragrances were Tommy Girl, Cool Water and Ralph. American Eagle seems to be the most popular store these days, Holley said.
