Perhaps the best way to enjoy Los Angeles Opera's 2004-05 season-opening Idomeneo was with eyes closed and ears wide open. In its September 10 performance, Mozart's opera seria soared musically on the strength of sterling singing and magnificent orchestral playing--despite a lamentable staging.
