TALLAHASSEE _ A smiling, cool and confident Miriam Oliphant withstood almost three hours of sometimes testy grilling from a lawyer for Gov. Jeb Bush on Friday as both sides prepare for a July trial on whether she should be permanently removed as Broward County's election chief.
It marked the first time Oliphant testified under oath about the events that occurred between her election to the countywide post in November 2000 and her suspension by Bush last November for alleged incompetence and mismanagement.
