RANCHO MIRAGE, CALIF. -- The harmonic scalpel is associated with less blood loss than unipolar cautery for uterine incisions performed during laparoscopic myomectomy, Dr. Andrew Harper reported.
In a retrospective cohort study of 166 patients, the mean estimated blood loss was 243 cc with the harmonic scalpel but 378 cc with unipolar cautery, a significant difference, he stated in a poster session at the annual meeting of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society.
