Jan. 28--As another Asian country reported its first cases of bird flu Tuesday, researchers in the U.S. and around the world were beginning the difficult work of developing a vaccine against the virus.
For now, the flu strain spreading quickly among millions of birds in Asia is less a threat to people than to the chickens it first infected.
Yet experts said the fact that the virus can kill birds as well as humans is making it harder to devise a vaccine for people--a process that requires growing the virus in chicken eggs.
Officials said Tuesday the virus had been found among ducks in China, the 10th Asian nation where the flu has infected birds. Eight people have died from the disease after contracting it from birds.
