Jan. 28--Jayme Cassidy, an assistant public defender with Broward County, recently interviewed for a judicial seat and was asked the following by a member of the selection committee: "Will you be able to balance your duties as a single mother of twins with your duties as a Broward judge?" Cassidy found the question inappropriate. But she answered it.
"I told them there are attorneys who are single and can't get to work on time," she says. "I get my two boys together and to school on time and myself together and to work on time. I'm organized. And those qualities are an asset to being on the bench." Balance is on the mind of many job recruiters and candidates.
