Jun. 22--Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Labor came out with its employment report showing that Bloomington had the fifth-highest increase in nonfarm employment in April among the nation's 274 metropolitan areas.

With an increase of 3.8 percent, Bloomington trailed only Iowa City, Iowa (5.2 percent); Las Vegas, Nev. (4.8 percent); and Laredo, Texas, and Reno, Nev. (both at 4.1 percent).

Nationally, employment growth was most widespread in education and health services. Other areas where employment grew were leisure and hospitality, business services and …
