I've been validated as an official "middlessencer," and I'm as giddy as a teenage prom queen.

Middlessence is one definition of the new and exciting time between middle age and old age. Some people call it third age, and a few academics have labeled it "midcourse."

There are lots of paths to take in "midcourse."

One _ Life Options _ is offered through community colleges and aims to create innovative approaches and new institutions that will ease the transition into middlessence.

WomanSage, the nonprofit for women 45-plus, is being considered for a Life Options project in Chula Visa and Mesa, Ariz.
