Santa Ana Lobbyist Says Gift Was From Pueblo
SANTA FE Ethics complaints have been filed against Mickey Barnett, a lobbyist and top Republican leader, for failing to report $1,000 he loaned a client to give to Democratic Sen. Manny Aragon.
Hoyt Clifton, an official in Secretary of State Rebecca Vigil-Giron's office, said Tuesday that two individuals and the Albuquerque law firm of Duhigg, Cronin, Spring and Berlin had filed separate ethics complaints against Barnett, alleging violations of the Campaign Practices Act and Lobbyist Act.
"We are in the process of writing a letter to Mr. Barnett notifying him of various violations," Clifton said. "Once notified he has 10 days to correct the violation or to indicate why the violation occurred."
Barnett, an Albuquerque lawyer and New Mexico's Republican national committeeman, on Tuesday denied any wrongdoing.
"I did not commit any ethics violation," Barnett said. "I did nothing wrong and they'll find nothing wrong."
