May 18--It was not the four years he spent as a bank executive a decade ago that won William Daley his new job as Midwest chairman of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
Daley's corporate savvy, political experience and Chicago roots prompted the bank to recruit him for a new position at what will soon be the city's largest bank. He will be the senior executive for the Midwest region, a job that includes being the corporate face of the bank, a rainmaker and strategist.
J.P. Morgan Chase is expected to complete its $55 billion purchase of Bank One this summer.
