WHITE PLAINS, NY -- The New York State Public Service Commission issued an order on July 29 approving new rates for Con Edison's standby electric delivery service to customers that produce some of their own electricity through onsite generation (distributed generation) and rejected the utility's proposed tariff that would have inhibited efforts to develop clean and renewable generation in downstate New York. The proposed new standby tariffs would have forced developers to forego opportunities to build distributed generation, including clean renewable and high efficiency combined heat and power plants in the Con Edison service territory, according to a news release issued by the Pace Law School Energy Project.
