FORT WORTH, Texas _ Vijay Singh tops the money list. Four other golfers, none of them named Tiger, took home one of professional golf's major championships.
Yet there are some on the PGA Tour who still consider Tiger Woods a lock for his fifth consecutive Player of the Year award.
Woods, the tour's only five-event winner in 2003, has the highest winning percentage (29.4) and lowest scoring average (68.19) among golfers headed to Houston to compete in this week's season-ending Tour Championship at Champions Golf Club. The field is limited to the season's top 30 money winners, and Stuart Appleby is one who believes the world's top-ranked golfer has done enough in an injury-marred season to secure a record fifth award when peers cast ballots later this month.
