EAST LANSING, Mich. _ As the University of Michigan team bus departed Spartan Stadium on Saturday, the driver pointed the Wolverines toward the southeast, back to Ann Arbor.
He should have headed west to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. Because after their 27-20 Big Ten Conference victory over No. 9 Michigan State, that is where the 11th-ranked Wolverines appeared to be headed, for the first time since the 1997 season.
If the Wolverines (8-2 overall, 5-1 Big Ten) win at Northwestern in two weeks and at home against archrival Ohio State on Nov. 22, they will secure the Rose Bowl berth.
