MIAMI _ Peyton Manning saw it coming all the way, a chosen one as the gifted offspring of gifted quarterback Archie. Across the field in this Colts-Dolphins game, Brian Griese couldn't be more shocked. ``Way back, I never ever even thought about it,'' Brian said, shaking his head.

In his teens, Brian told his Pro Football Hall of Fame father, Bob, ``I'll make them forget you.''

The world has heard the line. The world doesn't know Brian was joking, in spades.

``Absolutely joking,'' Brian said. ``I never even set out to be a quarterback, much less in the NFL, much less with the Dolphins.''

Of anyone who has watched Brian's life unfold, no one is more stunned than he, especially when he walks past a framed No. 12 jersey from his father at Dolphins training camp in Davie. Much less in the Hall in Canton, Ohio.

It's an unnatural story that started out naturally in its lack of illusion.
