AROUND THE NFC EAST
DALLAS _ The trend in the NFL is for winning teams to give their players Monday off. But there was no Victory Monday for the New York Giants last week after their huge road upset of the previously unbeaten Minnesota Vikings.
"It never crossed my mind," Giants coach Jim Fassel said. "We're 3-4. I'm pleased with them, but I am not that pleased overall."
This is familiar ground for the Giants, who also started 3-4 last season but wound up 10-6 and in the playoffs.
STATISTIC OF THE WEEK
Back on Oct. 3, 1999, Randall Cunningham lit up the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Metrodome. The Minnesota quarterback passed for 296 yards and three touchdowns in a 21-14 victory. He dropped back to pass 34 times, and the Bucs didn't tackle him once.
