Oct. 28--TARPON SPRINGS, Fla.--Nearly $7 million in disaster relief to Florida shrimpers remains tangled up in Tallahassee eight months after federal officials announced the grant.
Shrimpers were hoping the Legislative Budget Commission would release the money last week, but officials postponed their decision until at least November due to questions about the distribution.
"We were very disappointed in what happened," industry spokesman John Williams of the eight-state Southern Shrimp Alliance said Monday. "It's not only a disappointment, it's disgusting."
