Salzburg Festival 2002. The curtain has just fallen on a new production of Mozart's Don Giovanni, directed by Martin Kusej and conducted by Nikolaus Harnoncourt. In Austria, Don Giovanni is nearly as familiar as the national anthem, and a first-time visitor to the festival is eager to see how the performers will be received.
