It must have seemed a crazy, idea at the time, and perhaps it still does. In London, in the early 1970s, two enthusiasts decided to present concerts of forgotten operas. They started simply, with a handful of singers and musicians performing excerpts. Then they advanced to complete works in concert with full orchestra. Next, they put some of these works onstage for the first time in a century or more. Finally, in 1978, they began to record them.
