WASHINGTON _ President Bush on Friday announced several initiatives he said will "hasten the arrival of a new, free, democratic Cuba" _ the latest in a series of moves aimed at placating Cuban-Americans in South Florida who have criticized White House policy on the island nation.
The key initiative was the appointment of a presidential commission that will prepare the United States for a post-Fidel Castro Cuba, and study ways to hasten the day that transition comes.
