Everybody ducketh _ the National Endowment for the Arts is carpet-bombing the country with Shakespeare.
The result will no doubt be continued life for the federal arts funding agency, which further entrenches its unwavering commitment to security _ its own _ with this plan to bring William Shakespeare's plays to 100 "small to mid-size" cities and 1,000 schools across our pentameter-deprived country.
But there could be collateral damage for the theatergoers of the future, who may choke on the resulting cloud of toxic boredom.
Could that be the reason why Jack Valenti, president and CEO of the Motion Picture Association of America, is one of the initiative's honorary chairs? This could help doom a pesky rival of the movie business once and for all.
