TRACING WHITE HOUSE LEAK

The Justice Department has begun an investigation to learn who leaked the name of an undercover CIA officer to the media last summer, and President Bush has promised White House cooperation with the inquiry. It is essential that the president's promise be honored and that the Justice Department's investigation be exhaustive, independent and professional, for the leak involves possible violations of federal law and a tawdry abuse of government power.
