WASHINGTON _ Touch it. Squeeze it. Hug it. Wrap your arms around it.
In a remarkable exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery of Art that seems to break all the rules, art is suddenly within the grasp of Everyman.
And that is exactly what has critics sputtering.
Defying convention, sculptor J. Seward Johnson Jr. has translated some of the best-known impressionist paintings into three-dimensional tableaux.
"Beyond the Frame: Impressionism Revisited" is the first museum show for the 73-year-old Johnson, whose life-size cast-bronze figures of people doing everyday things can be found in parks and city streets throughout the country.
