Digital Video Recorders _ best described as VCRs without the tape _ are ready to hit the mainstream _ and a full-fledged pricing war between the two market leaders soon could leave the mainstream flocking to the DVR.
But choices have become complex. Satellite TV providers, PC makers and software companies _ and, in some cities, even cable companies _ offer their own versions of a DVR. Equipment costs and pricing plans have become tougher to understand.
