Byline: Cammy Clark
MIAMI _ The helicopter dropped Tina Basich off at the top of the uninhabited, virgin snow-covered mountain in Alaska _ with nothing but her snowboard.
As a pioneer in the sport, she was used to conquering new territory. But even as one of the world's best, she was not fully prepared for what was about to happen as she descended down the steep mass of white while a video crew in the helicopter captured her every majestic move.
Until . . .
``The whole thing cracked under my feet; the whole mountain was moving,'' she recalled.
Avalanche!
Unlike at ski resorts, there were no hazard signs or predetermined lines. Before the descent, she and a guide had plotted her route on her snowboard, and they planned a safety bailout course of action.
