Sep. 30--Workbench Furniture, which started in 1955 with a single store in Greenwich Village, is liquidating its 29 remaining locations.
The Bayonne, N.J.-based retailer, which sells what it calls "classic modern furniture," filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on June 23, intending to reorganize. But earlier this month it asked the bankruptcy court in New Jersey for approval to sell its assets and leases, explaining that its already poor financial situation was worsening.
