Sep. 27--WOOD RIVER, Ill.--A staunch opponent of a proposal for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter has circulated a flier warning that the corporation would ruin existing businesses.
City officials discovered the anonymous yellow flier Thursday when City Hall and City Council representatives received calls from residents. The leaflet accuses city leaders of orchestrating a "backroom political deal" to bring a 200,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter to town, replacing the city's present store.
