A study published in the June 2, 2003 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute says that men who overdose on zinc supplements more than double their risk of prostate cancer.
The increased risk was seen in those who took more than 100 milligrams per day of zinc supplements. Zinc is known to increase blood levels of insulin-like growth factor and testosterone, both of which are related to prostate cancer. Malignancy might occur because high levels of zinc increase the growth rate of prostate cancers.
