Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), a fatty acid naturally present in breast milk, significantly improves psychomotor functioning in breastfed babies whose mothers received a vegetarian source of DHA supplement, according to the results of a study presented in April at the Pediatric Academic Societies' 2001 annual meeting in Baltimore.
