Insulin therapy is underused and inappropriately considered to be too difficult to use for the management of type 2 diabetes, Dr. Dills said at the ACP-ASIM meeting.

Insulin therapy improves insulin sensitivity, which reduces glucotoxicity. Cardiovascular risk is probably reduced via insulin therapy, as suggested by the mortality decrease in patients whose acute MIs were treated with insulin therapy, she said.
