Genetic components from both mothers and fathers play a role in the predisposition to develop preeclampsia, findings of a recent population-based study suggest.
A review of birth records from Utah revealed that both men and women who were the products of a pregnancy complicated by preeclampsia had a significantly increased likelihood of having a child who also was born of a preeclamptic pregnancy, reported Dr. M. Sean Esplin and his colleagues at the University of Utah, Salt Lake City.
Of 947 children of men born of preeclamptic pregnancies, 26 (2.7%) were also born of pregnancies ...
