Ten year?s worth of patient work by Alabama Citizens for Life (ACL) bore fruit last month when the Alabama legislature passed ?The Woman?s Right to Know Act.? ACL Legislative Director Cheryl Ciamarra attributed passage to the bill?s bipartisan authorship.
State Sen. Phil Poole (D), who helped spearhead the effort, not only sponsoring the measure but also helped persuade his party?s leadership to allow the bill to come to the floor for a vote. Traditionally, Republicans had carried the bill. The combination of leaders of both parties resulted in a bill that passed the Senate 23-0 on April 4 and the House by 79 to 17 on April 17.
