Nothing defines an opera house like the singers who appear night after night. Each generation may have a Pavarotti who jets in for a single role each season, but the quality of performance is in the hands of those who settle into the opera house for long periods. Recently, OPERA NEWS asked ten American singers who were ubiquitous at the Met in the 1980s about what it was like to have a close relationship with one house.
