BLACKSBURG, Va. _ Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick and starting linebacker Brandon Manning have been suspended for Saturday's home game against James Madison University for a "violation of team policies." A source within the Hokies athletic department confirmed the suspensions Monday night.
Vick, a 6-foot, 208-pound redshirt freshman, was slated to be the backup to starter Bryan Randall. In Vick's place, sophomore Chris Clifton will move up to the top backup role, the source said. Manning will be replaced by redshirt freshman Aaron Rouse, and Rouse will be backed up by sophomore James Anderson, the source added.
Vick's suspension comes on the heels of his debut as a Hokie on Sunday in Virginia Tech's 49-28 victory against Central Florida. Against the Golden Knights, Vick completed 7-of-10 passes for 102 yards and a touchdown. Vick came off the bench for two offensive series in the game, replacing Randall, who completed 22-of-28 passes for 278 yards and three touchdowns.
On Monday morning, Hokies coach Frank Beamer addressed his quarterback situation on the weekly Big East football coaches teleconference.
