SAN JOSE, Calif. _ The Union City, Calif., sprinter entangled in a major track and field drug scandal wishes she had listened to an inner voice the day she won the 100 meters world title last week.
Something told Kelli White not to ingest the sample of modafinil pills that her Bay Area physician said he gave her to combat narcolepsy.
"I was real hesitant at first," White said Monday from Germany in a phone interview with the San Jose Mercury News, sobbing as she proclaimed her innocence and wondered aloud about her future.
"If we could only take back some things in life, I wouldn't have done it," she said. "It is just a small mistake with a big price tag on it."
