Mother Nature's incessant sprinkles played havoc with the U.S. Open on what turned into a Labored Day, with only American Jennifer Capriati and No. 2 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne able to complete their matches before midnight. On a day in which Andre Agassi, Todd Martin and Lleyton Hewitt were part of 70 matches washed away by rain, the sixth-seeded Capriati dodged the drops and 11th-seeded Elena Dementieva, 6-2, 7-5, to make her third consecutive trip to the quarterfinals.
